Settlement Reached in Plane Crash Suit

January 9, 2007 -

A $1 million settlement was recently reached in a plane crash suit filed by the widow of one of the victims.

The suit was filed against the estate of the pilot.

Plane Crashes Killing Four

Carole W. Green filed a $10 million suit against the estate of Rick Potter, the pilot who owned the plane that her husband died in during the 2006 crash.

Potter, Green, Michael Guy Pappas and Albert “Buck” Jacoby all died in the crash while they were reportedly on their way to see a Wake Forest University basketball game.

Suit Filed Against Pilot's Estate

According to court papers, Potter and Graham had insurance policies with U.S. Specialty Insurance Co. and Cincinnati Insurance Cos.

The wife of Michael Pappas, Amy, also filed a wrongful death suit against Potter's estate.

The lawsuit claimed that Potter failed to get up-to-date information about the weather before taking off from Winston-Salem, N.C., for Shannon Airport.

Potter was allegedly forced to change his path due to the weather and when he attempted to land at Stafford Regional Airport, the plane crashed and burned.
