Man Sues Lidle’s Estate Because of Plane Crash

June 13, 2007 -

Stephane Sparta recently filed a lawsuit against New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle’s estate due to a fatal plane crash that took place in October of 2006.

Sparta, who was at home when Lidle’s small plane crashed into his 31 st floor apartment in New York City, claims he has been forced to move from his home and has endured tremendous emotional stress due to the crash.

Lawsuit Details

Cory Lidle’s plane crashed into the luxury apartment building’s on East 72 nd street after a leisurely flight around the city, killing both Lidle and Tyler Stranger, Lidle’s flight instructor.

Sparta’s lawyer, David C. Cook, states that although the plane didn’t hit Sparta, it gave him “quite a shock” and according to court documents, the airplane exploded into the apartment completely destroying the property.

Sparta has filed the suit against Lidle’s wife, Melanie Lidle, who is the administrator of her late husband’s estate, for an unspecified amount of money.

Cause of the Crash

An investigation is still being held by the National Transportation Safety Board as to what caused the crash, and Sparta and his girlfriend were forced to move into another apartment building as a result.

Sparta’s lawyer claimed that his client has suffered “extensive mental anguish” and emotional stress because of the crash. He went on to say that although he tried to continue working, he is still going through emotional injuries and has post traumatic stress disorder.
