Plane Crash Victim’s Family Sues Plane Pilot and Owner

March 7 , 2007 -

The family of a man who was killed when a plane crashed into his mobile home last year has filed a wrongful death suit against the owner and pilot of the plane.

Lucien Broussard burned to death in the accident. His children Kevin Broussard and Sheila Legnon seek monetary damages from the plane’s owner – LCS Corrections Services – and the estate of the pilot Farrel Skelton, who also died in the wreck.

The Accident

Lucien Broussard, 73 when he died, was sitting in his mobile home on July 18 when a Beech BE58P crashed into it after an aborted landing at LeMaire Memorial Airport.

The mobile home caught fire. According to the suit, Broussard suffered third-degree burns to his face, neck, back, head and arms. The suit states that Lucien survived long enough to dial 9-1-1 then “died in excruciating and unimaginable pain.”

According to the suit, Lucien had donated the mobile home – valued at $16,000 before it was destroyed – to his children months before the crash.

Lucien’s Jeep – worth $2,900 – and his mobile home contents were also destroyed.

The Accusations

According to the lawsuit, LCS Corrections Services and Skelton committed various acts of negligence. Among them are:

· Attempting to land without knowledge of the runway’s location relative to the plane
· Failing to sustain appropriate airspeed
· Failing to exercise due care in the operation of an aircraft

The lawsuit contends that Shelia Legnon and Kevin Broussard are entitled to compensation for their father’s wrongful death.

It also holds that Shelia is entitled to compensatory damages for the emotional impact witnessing her father’s mobile home burn down had on her.
